Our Teaching method

At Punjabi Palette, our teaching method focuses on consistency, engagement, and confidence. Our goal is to help children learn Punjabi in a way that feels natural, enjoyable, and effective.

Unlike a typical Punjabi school, we do not expect children to already know Punjabi or only learn through Punjabi. We teach using a mix of English, Roman Punjabi, and Punjabi (Gurmukhi), so children feel comfortable and supported no matter what level they are starting at.

We offer both online and in-person classes, giving families the flexibility to choose what works best for their schedule and learning style.

Every child learns differently, which is why we adjust our teaching based on your child’s age, confidence, and current Punjabi level. Whether your child is a complete beginner or already understands some Punjabi, we meet them where they are and help them grow step by step.

Most class materials are included with your classes, including:

  • Punjabi Speaking Workbook

  • Worksheets and practice pages

  • Interactive games and activities

  • Homework trackers

  • Lesson slides and resources

  • Certificate of Completion

We also provide physical materials for many of our programs, which can be picked up or delivered before classes begin.

Class Options & Our Recommendation

We offer 1, 2, or 3 classes per week, depending on each family’s schedule and learning goals.

That said, we recommend two classes per week for most children.

One class a week often creates too much time between lessons, while two classes provide enough consistency for children to:

  • Retain vocabulary more easily

  • Build speaking confidence faster

  • Stay connected to the language without feeling overwhelmed

Three classes per week can be a great option for families looking for faster progress or extra practice.

We recommend 2 classes per week for the best balance of progress, confidence, and consistency.

Multilingual Learning Resources

All of our resources are provided in:

  • English

  • Roman Punjabi

  • Punjabi (Gurmukhi)

This makes it easier for children and parents to follow along, even if they cannot yet read Punjabi.

Our materials include:

  • Fun, age-appropriate worksheets

  • Interactive activities

  • PowerPoint lessons

  • Clear lesson goals for each class

  • Speaking prompts and practice sheets

Interactive, Game-Based Learning

Classes are designed to be fun and engaging. We use activities such as:

  • Colour games (finding objects by colour)

  • Action songs like “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes” in Punjabi

  • Movement-based speaking games

  • Matching games, role-play, and simple conversations

These activities help children learn through play, movement, and participation instead of just memorization.

Class Structure

Classes are one hour long, with break time built in if children need it. This keeps lessons focused while allowing children to reset and stay engaged.

We keep class sizes small and lessons personalized so every child gets support and feels included.

Our Goal

Our focus is on confidence, not perfection. We want children to feel comfortable hearing, speaking, and using Punjabi in everyday situations while building a stronger connection to their culture and family.

Because when children enjoy learning, they stay connected to the language for life.
